This section may evolve over time.  We are actively working both the ASA League Officials & local guidelines to provide a safe and fun swim summer.

ASA has partnered with Summer League Swimming to require all coaches in the league to obtain a required background check, as well as a valuable coaches certification course at no cost to the coach or team. We require both the background check and certification course for ALL coaches and are completed annually before the coach interacts with athletes for any team function. 

BACKGROUND CHECKS

Background checks are required for all coaches and assistant coaches. We have partnered with Sterling Volunteers to provide a level 2 background check that includes a current county/state of residence search going back 7 years, plus monthly updates. This goes above and beyond the level 1 background check that searches the national criminal database.

If a coach is under 18, the Sterling Portal provides all documents that will need to be signed by a parent to proceed with the check.

COACH CERTIFICATION COURSE

All coaches and assistant coaches are required to complete the coach certification course with a passing grade of 80% or higher. Each coach will receive a certificate of completion that must be presented to their team rep.

Everyone participating in summer league, including parents, are invited to take the coach course. It is a great course that teaches positive and leadership in coaching and in life. 

• Following state and local health authorities’ guidelines for distancing, masks, etc.. and will have all proper signage at and around our facility.
• Coaches, parents, and swimmers are not required to wear a mask however should practice necessary precautions to ensure our members stay healthy and safe. 
• Swimmers should bring his/her own water bottle. 
• Swimmers are encouraged to have their own training equipment (ie. goggles) and can be purchased at https://reddiset.com/collections/highland-park-crocsif needed. (Kickboards will be provided) 
• Swimmers should arrive and leave in their swimsuits. Swimmers should not use the bathrooms to change or shower. 
• Locker rooms will be open for restroom use only. 
• Hand sanitizer will be present at all times during all swim team activities by the front gate. 
• If any coach or swimmer is experiencing any illness, they should error on the side of caution and not participate in any swim team activities. 
• Coaches reserve the right to ask any swimmer to exit the pool and leave practice if they believe COVID protocols are not being followed.

• We are currently working to determine all accommodations and conditions for hosting meets as this will look slightly different this year
• Some pools will be able to host in person meets and some may not, which will require those teams to have virtual meets. 
• The “normal” meet experience with wall to wall people may not be possible without restrictions that are currently in place being adjusted. 
• Teams may have to split each week’s in person meet into different sessions and possibly days in order to stay within local guidelines for distancing and crowd capacity 
• A hybrid approach may be used with some events done in person and other events completed virtually

Virtual Meets: Only if needed

• Virtual meets are where teams swim their events at their respective pools and exchange results with their opponent electronically 
• Teams can swim their events at any time and in any configuration or order they choose. Events don’t have to be swim simultaneously with the other team. Teams just have to complete their events and swap results by an agreed upon date/time each week to complete the meet. 
• There is a great deal of flexibility to to complete these each week.
